The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Meerut: A head constable and a woman constable posted at Shahi police station in Bareilly were suspended on Sunday following complaints about their relationship and alleged misbehaviour with a senior police officer.

The head constable, 30, was married, while the woman constable, 28, was unmarried. He then informed SHO Ashutosh Dwivedi, who reported the incident to senior officers.

Police said the two had allegedly been in a relationship for the past four months. Arya told TOI, “Under police service rules, a married cop cannot indulge in such an act, owing to which both have been suspended.” The matter came to light after a sub-inspector saw the two together in a room and objected, after which both allegedly misbehaved with him. Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya subsequently asked Mirganj CO Ajay Kumar to probe the matter. Based on the CO’s report and allegations of indiscipline and improper conduct, senior officers suspended both constables and ordered a departmental inquiry.
