Singh said the exemption applies only to private vehicles. Prayagraj: the new automated testing facility for driving licence applicants at the Naini transport office now operational. The system has been integrated with the transport department and online testing is being conducted, replacing the existing manual driving test process. Under the new system, applicants are now asked to clear driving tests in two stages. In the first stage, their driving ability is assessed on a simulator. Applicants clearing the simulator test are then being required to take the practical test on the actual driving track. The track is equipped with CCTV cameras and advanced sensors to monitor the applicant’s driving movements and performance. The technology-based system is aimed at reducing human intervention and making the assessment process more transparent and uniform. The transport department has removed the mandatory fitness certification requirement for such private vehicles. Vehicle owners are being spared both the time spent visiting the transport office and the expenses associated with periodic fitness checks. The existing fitness testing and certification requirements continue for commercial vehicles with seven to nine seats. Download the TOI App.
