Kanpur: Kanpur DM Mahendra Singh Tanwar, municipal commissioner Arpit Upadhyay and chief development officer Abhinav J Jain inspected ongoing road construction and sanitation works in the city on Friday night and directed officials to speed up projects and strengthen waste management ahead of Diwali .
Officials said the road, around 1.8km long, had been approved under the second phase of CM-GRIDS. A second instalment of Rs 924.84 lakh was sanctioned for the project in September 2026.
The executing agency said the work could continue until November. The City Health Officer and Zonal Sanitation Officer said large quantities of garbage had earlier accumulated at the site and spilled onto the road. The officials, accompanied by SDM Sadar Anubhav Singh, first inspected the under-construction CM-GRIDS road near Deep Talkies in Nirala Nagar. The project involves comprehensive strengthening and development of the road, including drainage and utility infrastructure. The officials later inspected the Garbage Vulnerable Point (GVP) at Gaushala crossing. Following instructions from the municipal commissioner, an organised waste collection system has now been put in place, with waste being cleared from the designated platform and transported to a nearby transfer station.
The team also inspected the PCTS and GVP in the Juhi area and directed officials to ensure regular garbage collection, continuous monitoring and improved sanitation.
