One killed, another injured after container-truck crashes into roadside kiosk

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Faiyaz Khan (35) and Radhakrishna Tiwari (55), both residents of Kandhi, were drinking tea at the kiosk in Derapur police station area when the container, travelling from Kanpur towards Auraiya, went out of control and crushed the kiosk before entering a field.

Faiyaz operated a puncture repair shop and supported his family with its income, his wife Chandni told the police. Station House Officer Dhirendra Singh said the police had taken the container into custody. Further action would be taken after receipt of the post-mortem report and a complaint, the SHO said.

Both men were taken to a hospital, where doctors declared Faiyaz dead. Radhakrishna is undergoing treatment at medical college Akbarpur. His death left Chandni, elderly mother Anisa Begum, sons Firoz and Aslam, and daughters Nisha and Shabnam grieving. Its driver fled after the accident. Police are searching for him.
