Over 403 modified silencers were removed from vehicles during a traffic police drive in Lucknow Lucknow: The Lucknow traffic police has intensified its crackdown on vehicles fitted with modified silencers and launched a special enforcement drive to curb excessive noise and sound pollution caused by such alterations. The special campaign was conducted across various locations in the city from Sep 2 to Sep 10, during which traffic personnel carried out extensive checks of two-wheelers and other vehicles suspected of violating prescribed standards. A total of 3,694 vehicles were checked during the eight-day drive, according to the Lucknow traffic police. During the campaign, police issued 543 challans to vehicles found in violation of traffic and vehicle regulations. In addition, 19 vehicles were seized for violations detected during the checking operation. As part of the action against modified silencers, 403 modified silencers were removed from vehicles and deposited at the police lines, according to the traffic police.
Officials said the enforcement drive was aimed particularly at curbing the use of modified silencers on two-wheelers, which can produce excessively loud and harsh sounds and contribute to noise pollution in residential and public areas. Enforcement action was taken against vehicles found operating with modified silencers or otherwise violating the prescribed norms. The traffic police has appealed to motorists to cooperate with enforcement teams and ensure that their vehicles comply with prescribed safety and technical standards.
