Lucknow: Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Sunday criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his reported remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s father in Patna, accusing the opposition party of lowering political discourse by targeting family members.
Pathak said political differences and ideological disagreements were natural in a democracy, but targeting someone’s parents or family in the name of political opposition was inappropriate. Reacting to Kharge’s remarks, Pathak said that such statements reflected what he described as the Congress’s declining political culture. “People are supreme in a democracy, and their verdict is final,” Pathak said, asserting that voters would teach the Congress and its leaders a lesson in the coming elections.
He alleged that the Congress had repeatedly resorted to making personal remarks against Modi, including comments concerning his mother and attempts to mock his humble family background. Pathak claimed that the Congress’s political discourse appeared to be shifting away from issues of public interest towards personal allegations and counter-allegations.
