Prayagraj : Personal attention matters more than information. Many people imagine that counselling is only for a crisis situation. But in reality, most people come to feel better and stay well, to understand themselves, communicate with the people they love, and grow. The need is far larger than we often admit.
Dr Raj said that as per National Mental Health Survey of India (2015-16) estimates, nearly 150 million Indians require mental healthcare services.
She said, “We humans need humans around us. Behind that number are ordinary people: a student overwhelmed by expectations, a parent quietly exhausted, a colleague who always smiles. Even when family is at home, ask yourself: are our conversations technical or meaningful? Add phones, screens and endless scrolling, and we can sit in the same room for hours and still feel miles apart. ”
‘Did you eat?’ is a question about food, but ‘How did you feel while eating today’s lunch?’ is a question about you. ‘How was school today?’ often gets a one-word reply, while ‘How are you feeling about school today?’ opens a door.
