Varanasi: Police arrested the mother of a minor rape survivor on Thursday after investigators found her alleged involvement while probing a case registered under the Pocso Act .
The stepfather, named as the main accused, was arrested on Sept 3 and sent to jail. Police said the woman had initially filed a complaint accusing her husband, the girl’s stepfather, of raping the minor, threatening to kill her when she resisted, and later luring her away. Station in charge Gopal Ji Kushwaha said that during investigation, police recorded the girl’s statement and examined other evidence. Police said she arrived at the police station on Thursday to inquire about the matter and was arrested after legal formalities.
On the basis of the statement and facts that emerged, the complainant’s role appeared suspicious and she was marked wanted in the case.
