The foundation of the ashram of the Nath sect was laid down at Prayagraj
The project is targeted to be completed before Kumbh 2031. The Nath tradition has a strong presence in India and Nepal, with around 25,000 seers associated with the sect. During Kumbh and Mahakumbh, around 3,000 to 5,000 Nath seers visit Prayagraj and stay in the Sangam area. Mahasabha general secretary Yogi Chetainath said the ashram would have more than 40 rooms. A large bhandara facility will have arrangements to prepare and serve food to around 3,000 people at a time. A major attraction will be a 50-foot-high and 25-foot-wide marble statue of Guru Gorakhnath, the revered deity of the Nath tradition.

The Akhil Bharatvarshiya Avdhoot Bhesh Barah Panth Yogi Mahasabha is constructing the ashram. Work has started after a recent bhoomi pujan. The ashram is being developed near Someshwar Mahadev temple. The project is aimed at providing a permanent base in Prayagraj for Nath sect seers who gather here during Kumbh and Mahakumbh and expanding spiritual tourism and Hatha Yoga practices in the city. Many of them undertake meditation and penance in Himalayan caves and other locations. However, the community currently does not have a permanent facility in the city. The new ashram will have a Guru Gorakhnath temple and a Gorakhnath Akhara building. Once completed, Nath seers will be able to stay at the facility and undertake spiritual practices dedicated to public welfare. The complex will also have a large hall, besides a separate auditorium for bhajans and kirtans. The statue will be brought from Jaipur and will depict the guru seated on a four-foot-high throne. A flag will also be installed outside the temple. The Nath sect’s prominent monastery and Guru Gorakhnath temple are located in Gorakhpur. Mahant Digvijaynath was the first president of the Akhil Bharatvarshiya Avdhoot Bhesh Barah Panth Yogi Mahasabha, followed by Mahant Avaidyanath. After his death, Yogi Adityanath became its president. The chief minister is also the peethadhishwar of Gorakhnath temple.
