Prince Yukesh Singh (second from left), son of Umashankar Singh, only BSP MLA in UP assembly who passed away early this month, attended the state level meeting of the party in Lucknow on Monday.
She said Singh and his family treated her as one of their own and referred to the rakhi bond. Yukesh’s presence at the meeting comes amid renewed attention on the family’s longstanding ties with Mayawati. After Umashankar Singh’s death, Mayawati visited the family’s residence in Lucknow to offer condolences and publicly spoke about the relationship she shared with the late legislator. Mayawati also stated that, if the family wished, she would help promote Yukesh in politics, noting Umashankar Singh’s popularity in Rasra assembly constituency of Ballia district and his work for local residents.
On Rakshabandhan , he had shared a photograph from last year’s celebrations in which Mayawati tied a rakhi to Umashankar Singh, writing that it was “a bond, a relation, which can never break.
