Gorakhpur : BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary on Wednesday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders of attempting to destabilise the country by spreading anarchy and questioning democratic institutions after repeated electoral defeats.
Citing recent electoral results, he said the Congress had managed to win only one of the 28 MLC seats elected through ballot papers across the country. He also pointed out that the Congress had remained out of power in UP for 37 years, Bihar for 36 years and Gujarat for 31 years, among other states. He challenged Rahul and the Congress to introspect instead of blaming electoral institutions whenever they lost elections.
Addressing a gathering at MP Intermediate College in Gorakhpur during the BJP’s ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign, Chaudhary said opposition leaders were trying to malign the Constitution and create instability in the country. “One woman leader even said they had come here after being exported from Bangladesh. Our country runs on democratic principles,” he said. Chaudhary said the BJP had taken out the campaign to expose what he described as the opposition’s attempts to undermine democracy. Contrasting the opposition’s approach with the Centre’s performance, Chaudhary said India had emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies under Prime Minister Narendra Modi despite the Covid pandemic and global challenges. He said the country had moved beyond the ‘Fragile Five’ category and was witnessing growth in infrastructure, welfare schemes and entrepreneurship.
Referring to the recent protest in Delhi, he alleged that some leaders had provoked young people and raised slogans about changing the regime. But India’s democratic roots are deeply entrenched. India cannot become Bangladesh, Nepal or Sri Lanka.
