Kanpur: A 55-year-old shopkeeper died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself with a country-made pistol at a community hall in Kilhaua village under Panwadi police station in Mahoba on Sunday night, police said.
Rajendra Singh alias Rajjan Rajput (55) was found in a pool of blood by villagers on Monday morning. His elder brother Ghanshyam told police that Rajendra had since been under depression and consuming excessive alcohol. ASP Vandana Singh said Rajendra had previously survived two suicide attempts. Police and a forensic team examined the scene, collected evidence and recovered the pistol. Rajendra ran a grocery shop from a kiosk in front of the village Baratshala, where he often slept. His elder son Anil works as a labourer in Delhi and lives there with his family. Rajendra’s unmarried younger son, Jitu, had died by suicide eight years ago, while his wife Santoshi died of an illness five years ago. Download the TOI App.
