Varanasi: A joint team of Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered Rs43 lakh cash from a passenger during a checking drive at DDU Railway Station in Chandauli district on Wednesday night.

The security personnel checked train (12393) Sampoorna Kranti Express after it arrived at platform-3 around 10.30pm. The passenger was identified as Alok Kumar Sah (23), a resident of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar. The operation was conducted under the leadership of sub-inspector Avinash Tripathi . During the inspection of a general coach, the team noticed a passenger carrying a black backpack. A search of his backpack led to the seizure of Rs43 lakh cash. When questioned, Sah failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or produce documents to establish the source of the money. The Income Tax Department, Varanasi, was informed about the recovery. A team of officials subsequently reached the police station, where the passenger and seized cash were handed over for further legal action. Download the TOI App.
