Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yatra Launched in Uttar Pradesh
The Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yatra has been launched in Uttar Pradesh to enhance public transport accessibility for senior women. This initiative, named in honor of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, aims to highlight the vital contributions and dignity of women in society. By merging social welfare initiatives with transportation services, the program seeks to foster a more inclusive mobility framework across the state.
Uttar Pradesh Launches Free Travel Scheme for Senior Women
The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced the Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yatra, also known as the Matrushakti Yojana, aimed at enhancing mobility and support for senior women citizens. Launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this initiative underscores the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment and improving public transport accessibility for elderly women.
Eligible participants, women aged 60 and older, can now travel free of charge on Uttar Pradesh Roadways buses. This program is designed to alleviate the financial burden of travel for senior women, particularly those requiring transportation for medical appointments, family obligations, religious visits, or other essential activities.
To facilitate this initiative, the Uttar Pradesh government has allocated approximately Rs 22.50 crore per month, highlighting the program’s scale and the administration’s intention to sustain these benefits over time.
