A shopkeeper from Naveen Nagar succumbed to injuries at a private hospital late Monday after being attacked by a group of intoxicated youths. The incident occurred near Om Chauraha in Kakadeo on Saturday night, where the victim was reportedly struck with bricks and stones. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault.
Police said one of the youths allegedly began urinating on the roadside. Kakadeo police station in charge Dharmendra Ram said a case had been registered on the family’s complaint. He said the accused would soon be arrested and sent to jail.
When Kumar objected, the youth started abusing him. CCTV footage of the incident reportedly shows the youths thrashing Kumar as passersby attempted to rescue him. The assailants then fled the spot, leaving Kumar in a critical condition. Police reached the spot after receiving information and rushed him to a hospital. Family members later gathered at the post-mortem house and demanded the arrest of the four accused. They alleged negligence on the part of the police, claiming that the suspects had not been arrested despite CCTV footage of the incident being available.
Amit Kumar was returning from his shop in Naveen Nagar at around 11pm on Saturday when he came across four youths drinking near Om Chauraha, according to police.
