Meerut : A 65-year-old farmer and his son died of electrocution after a wire fence around their crop field came into contact with a main electricity line in Indepur village of Shahjahanpur, police said.
Shyama Charan Verma and his son Sumit,28, were putting up an electrified fence to keep stray cattle away from their bajra crop when the wire became live at about 7am on Thursday. Shyama died on the spot after touching it, while Sumit, who worked in Punjab and had stayed in the village after Raksha Bandhan to look after his crop, was electrocuted when he tried to rescue his father. Villagers found their bodies around noon and informed the police and family. Sumit is survived by his wife and two children.
Shahjahanpur SSP Saurabh Dixit said no foul play was suspected and the family had not made any allegations. “Autopsy reports also showed electrocution as the cause of death,” Dixit told TOI. No FIR had been registered in the case, he added.
