Moradabad : What was supposed to be a celebratory evening turned into a nightmare for a family in UP’s Moradabad on Tuesday afternoon after a speeding SUV ploughed into children playing outside their homes, killing two toddlers—including a two-year-old boy whose birthday was to be celebrated later that evening.
The tragedy occurred around 5 pm in Mudhiya Bhaipur village, in Mundapandey police station area. Villagers said the SUV, travelling from Karanpur toward Mundapandey, lost control and veered off the road, crashing straight into a group of children at play.
SP (City) Kumar Ranvijay Singh said, “The SUV rammed into a roadside cart in the village around 5pm, leaving four children and a woman injured. The horrifying crash sparked anger among locals, who blocked the road, caught the SUV driver and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Senior police officers, including the circle officer, rushed to the place to pacify the agitated villagers, who had initially demanded a visit from the district magistrate. Two of the children died while undergoing treatment, and the others are under medical care. The vehicle and its driver are in police custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated.”
Four other children, including Ichcha (6), Mahak (5), and Ayush (6), suffered severe injuries. Two-year-old Ansh , whose family was making arrangements to celebrate his birthday later in the evening, died on the spot. Another child, one-year-old Chitra , succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
