Varanasi: A 16-year-old boy was injured after an illegal firearm accidentally discharged while he and his friends were filming a social media reel in Behwariya village under Phulpur police station limits on Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 1 pm when Nitin and his three friends were recording a reel using an illegal firearm, according to police. The injured teenager was identified as Nitin Chauhan, a resident of Kathiraon. During the filming, the weapon suddenly discharged and the bullet struck Nitin in the cheek. Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshot and took him to the Community Health Centre in Pindra. He was later referred to the BHU Trauma Centre for further treatment. After receiving information, ACP Pindra, the SHO of Phulpur police station and personnel from the Kathiraon police outpost reached the scene and inspected the spot. Police have taken two boys into custody for questioning. Officials are also examining CCTV footage and trying to trace the source of the illegal firearm. Further legal action is underway.
