Gorakhpur : Uttar Pradesh’s first forestry and horticulture university is set to come up in the Campierganj area of Gorakhpur, with the district administration and forest department speeding up preparations for its foundation stone-laying ceremony.

The project gained momentum after Yogi announced it on Sept 6, 2024, during the inauguration of the Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre in Campierganj. Divisional Forest Officer Shubham Singh said the university would also promote research and provide modern training to farmers and students. The institution will offer BSc, MSc, PhD and diploma courses in forestry, horticulture, wildlife conservation, climate change, natural resource management, agroforestry and fruit cultivation.

The university, a dream project of CM Yogi Adityanath , will be built on 50 hectares (123.55 acres) of land at Bharaibaisi at an estimated cost of over Rs 491 crore, officials said. Construction is expected to be completed within two years, and preparations are underway for the chief minister to lay the foundation stone.
