Varanasi: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) will launch a special campaign to promote scientific management of solid waste at source and improve cleanliness in the city.
As part of efforts to ensure compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and mandatory registration of bulk waste generators, the civic body will organise a training workshop on Sept 29 at Dr Sampurnanand Sports Stadium in Sigra.

The civic body said the campaign aims to prevent improper disposal of waste and promote a cleaner and more environment-friendly Varanasi. Representatives of major hotels, restaurants, hospitals, educational institutions, residential societies, commercial establishments, government and private offices, and other bulk waste generators have been invited to attend the workshop. Experts will train participants in source segregation of waste into wet and dry categories, scientific processing and disposal, and the registration process under the new rules. Participants will also be able to raise their queries and concerns during the session. Municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal appealed to all institutions and bulk waste generators to attend the workshop on time and complete registration of their establishments as required under the rules.
