Meerut : An FIR has been registered against a 32-year-old doctor from Shahjahanpur and six members of his family for allegedly subjecting his 30-year-old wife to dowry harassment and physical abuse, including drugging her before throwing her off the roof, police said on Wednesday. The woman suffered a fractured leg and multiple injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bareilly.
The latest incident took place on the morning of Sept 21, when Sonali was allegedly locked inside a room, beaten and strangled by her in-laws.
The accused administered medicines and injections to destabilise her mental health, according to the complainant. Police said the allegations are being investigated and efforts are underway to trace the accused, who are absconding. They then cut her hair to humiliate her before throwing her off the roof of her house. Her father initially took her to the district hospital and later shifted her to a hospital in Bareilly.
