police said all angles were being investigated While the families termed it a case of suicide. Police brought down the bodies, examined the scene and sent them for postmortem.
The boy, 17, was a Class XI student and the only son in his family. The girl, 15, was the youngest of eight siblings — five sisters and three brothers. Their houses were around 100 metres apart.
Family members said the two had been in a relationship for about three months after meeting during the Sawan mela. Relatives said the teenagers were counselled several times to end the relationship. The girl’s family allegedly restricted her from leaving the house, while the boy’s sister said there had been disputes over the matter earlier as well. ASP (North) Kuldeep Singh said preliminary inquiries had indicated that the two were in a relationship.
Their families learnt about the relationship in Aug and opposed it as they belonged to the same village. Their bodies were found on the outskirts of the village the next morning. The investigation has been assigned to the circle officer, and further action will be taken based on the postmortem report and findings of the probe.
The two went missing from their homes on Friday night, following which their families began searching for them.
