BoR chairperson Archana Agrawal launched portals for EWS certificates and land division under Section 116 of the Uttar Pradesh revenue code, along with a simplified khatauni, the official record containing details of land and its holders. Under Section 116, a co-owner can seek division of a jointly held property. A separate portal has been introduced for division of land jointly held by two or more people.
Officials said the move is aimed at reducing paperwork and repeated visits to revenue offices while making officials more accountable for timely disposal of cases. Applicants will be able to track the stage at which their application is pending,” said an official source. The new systems will allow applications to be tracked digitally from filing to disposal. “Under the EWS portal, eligible people can apply for certificates online. Applications will be digitally forwarded to the lekhpal, the village-level revenue official, and the tehsildar for verification and disposal. The simplified khatauni is aimed at making land records easier for ordinary landowners to understand. Land area will now be displayed up to six decimal places, providing more precise details, particularly for smaller plots. Information about old orders kept in record rooms and previous mortgage-related orders will also be organised and made available, helping people and revenue officials understand a property’s ownership history. Applications can now be filed online, while notices, official announcements and reports submitted by lekhpals can also be processed and monitored digitally.

Officials said this would make it easier to understand ground-level details and improve coordination between revenue courts and field officials. Agrawal said technology should not merely digitise procedures but help provide simple, transparent and time-bound solutions to citizens. The portal will use Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to show the actual geographical location of the land. Khatauni records, other documents and land maps used in deciding partition cases will also be brought together through the digital system. Download the TOI App.
