Prayagraj : The UP Board will now conduct practical exams for Class 10 science and home science instead of allowing schools to award marks through internal assessment, a move aimed at making evaluation more uniform and reducing the scope for arbitrary marking.
UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh said the council regulations had been amended to replace internal assessment in Class 10 science and home science with practical exams.
The board said the change was intended to make the teaching and assessment of science and home science more effective. The new system will be implemented from this academic session. Under the existing system, schools had considerable discretion in awarding internal assessment marks, leading to concerns over differences in evaluation standards among institutions.
The change will apply to students studying in more than 29,000 schools affiliated with the board. Till now, science and home science, like several other subjects, carried 30 marks for internal assessment. The marks were subsequently used for grading in the Class 10 marksheet.
School principals were responsible for awarding these marks and uploading them on the UP Board portal.
