MEERUT: A 30-year-old man was arrested for killing his second wife 18 months after she gave birth to a son, police said on Sunday. After examining footage from around 25 CCTV cameras, police identified her as Sheeba and arrested her husband, Mohd Sadiq.
Police said Sadiq later refused to accept Sheeba’s daughter from her first marriage, prompting her to return to her parents with both children. Police said the murder was planned after Sheeba reached Sadiq’s house. He has been arrested, while the other accused are absconding, said police.
He married her after having five daughters with his first wife, hoping for a boy. He arranged a friend’s car and travelled with Sheeba, his first wife and mother, while one of his brothers drove and the other followed on a motorcycle. Sadiq strangled Sheeba inside the car, dumped her body in a field and hit her face with bricks to conceal her identity.
Meerut rural SP Abhijeet Kumar said an unidentified woman’s body was found in the Sardhana police station area on Thursday.
The family eventually accepted Sheeba, who gave birth to a boy 18 months ago. When Sadiq’s family opposed the marriage, he took Sheeba to a rented house in Nangloi area of Delhi. He returned three months later and convinced his family that he had married her to have a son. Her family later arranged a rented house for her and her first husband in Pachpedha village.
