Additional Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar said police arrested Rajkumar Rajbhar alias Raju, 38, a resident of the Kotwali Nagar police station area in Mau, on Sunday. Police said Rajbhar allegedly hatched the conspiracy on May 30, 2025, in Ghazipur to stage his own death.
He allegedly staged his death to evade legal proceedings and avoid repaying money collected from people on the pretext of investing in the stock market, police said. Images of a funeral procession and the last rites were also allegedly arranged to make the claim of his death appear authentic, police said. Police said a case has been registered against Rajbhar at the Kotwali Nagar police station for allegedly obtaining forged documents to falsely establish his death.
The accused allegedly arranged a goat’s funeral in Ghazipur and used artificial intelligence (AI) to replace the animal’s body with an image of himself to make his death appear genuine. As part of the plan, he allegedly used an AI-generated image showing a body lying on a funeral pyre at a cremation ground. He has been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
MAU: A murder accused in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district allegedly used an AI-generated image of a body on a funeral pyre to obtain a death certificate and try to convince a court that he had died, police said on Sunday.
Rajbhar is an accused in the 2016 murder case of Yogesh Singh, who was shot dead.
During the trial, he allegedly fabricated a story about his own death and submitted forged documents to the court in an attempt to escape legal proceedings, the officer said.
