Lucknow: Electricity availability in Uttar Pradesh is expected to improve over the next two days as more generating units return to service, though the state continues to face a demand-supply gap amid coal shortages and outages.
UPPCL chairman Ashish Kumar Goel said Anpara-D, Harduaganj-E and Obra-B Unit 10 were revived by Tuesday morning, adding around 1,300 MW to the grid. He said another 1,250 MW is likely to be available within one to two days as units at NPGC, Singrauli, TRN Energy, Ghatampur and Jawaharpur come online. UPPCL said peak demand on Sept 15 was about 29,800 MW, while supply was maintained at around 27,000 MW. To bridge the gap, the utility is receiving about 2,400 MW during peak hours through power banking arrangements with other states. It also said talks with Kerala have led to an understanding to secure 500–600 MW through power banking during summer months for the next five years. UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad chairman Avdhesh Kumar Verma questioned preparedness, citing a UPSLDC report showing a 3,375 MW shortage and rural supply averaging 15 hours 32 minutes. The report recorded availability of 23,476 MW against restricted demand of 26,806 MW at 3 am, with emergency curtailment of 3,330 MW.
