Dehradun: Uttarakhand High Court has held that candidates seeking admission to postgraduate medical courses in the state are entitled to Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation benefits, provided they hold a valid SC certificate issued by a competent state authority and are permanent residents of Uttarakhand.
The petitioner, who scored 88 out of 720 in the NEET-PG 2026 examination, had alleged that he was being denied reservation benefits during the state counselling process despite holding an SC certificate issued by the tehsildar of Haridwar in Aug 2018 and being a permanent resident of Uttarakhand. Because he completed his MBBS degree from a recognised medical institution outside Uttarakhand, counsel for the petitioner argued that Singh should not be deprived of category benefits merely. Accepting the submission, the high court directed the state counselling board to verify the petitioner’s caste certificate and domicile status. The bench clarified that if both documents are found valid, the petitioner must be extended the benefit of SC reservation for admission to PG medical courses in medical colleges across Uttarakhand.
