A political disagreement at a tea shop in the Hatihalka area of Midnapore Sadar escalated into violence on Friday. The confrontation between two groups resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man and left several others injured. Authorities are investigating the incident, which highlights ongoing tensions in the region’s political landscape.
Incident Details of Khan’s Death
Police reported that Khan suffered a fatal head injury from an axe strike. He was transported to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
SP Papiya Sultana said raids were underway to detain more people. Tiwari alleged that rival political camps were trying to “take over” the area, resulting in the clash. He said he was confident police would identify those responsible for instigating the violence.
Police have detained eight people in connection with the violence. There were conflicting claims over whether Khan was a BJP worker. Some local BJP activists identified him as a party member, but BJP organisational district president Saumen Tiwari denied the claim. BJP district vice-president Ajay Jana called for a thorough probe.
