The company has quietly introduced Style Sketch, a new AI-powered fashion app designed to help people put together outfits using clothes they already own. Ever stood in front of a full wardrobe and felt like you had absolutely nothing to wear? Meta might have a solution.
Google Photos has also introduced tools that allow people to turn pictures of their clothing into digital wardrobes. Style Sketch offers a couple of ways to build a digital wardrobe. Those who’d rather start from scratch can add clothes themselves by taking pictures, recording short videos or uploading images from their phone. Once the wardrobe is ready, the app starts suggesting outfit combinations based on the user’s personal style. So, that shirt you’ve worn the same way for the past two years might get a completely different look. Users can also pick a particular item and ask the app to come up with fresh styling ideas around it. And Style Sketch isn’t just about everyday outfits. It also comes with a travel-planning feature. Users can enter where they’re going, how long they’ll be away and what activities they have planned. The app then puts together a day-by-day outfit plan, taking the local weather forecast and itinerary into account. AI-powered wardrobe apps aren’t exactly new. Several platforms, including startups such as Alta, already help users organise their clothes digitally and experiment with different outfit combinations. But Meta has something that could give Style Sketch an edge: Instagram.
Users can connect their Instagram accounts, allowing the app to pick up clothing items from photos they’ve previously shared.
