Back in August 2021, while chatting with The New Indian Express during promotions for MasterChef Telugu, the actress called Pesarattu her absolute favourite Telangana and Andhra dish. Years earlier, in February 2018, she had already given fans a glimpse of this preference by posting an Instagram photo of Pesarattu served on a banana leaf with sambar and coconut chutney as her on-set meal. NDTV Food noted in 2018 that this is exactly the kind of light, digestible meal Tamannaah chose on set, pairing it with sambar and coconut chutney.
Tamannaah Bhatia has long been open about her love for simple, comforting South Indian food, and one dish stands out above the rest for her. She described it as a wholesome meal packed with protein from green gram and full of health benefits. The post, picked up by NDTV Food, showed just how much she enjoys this lighter take on a dosa while filming. Tamannaah has spoken about how the green gram gives it a solid protein boost and plenty of fibre, something that fits her preference for clean, home-style meals that keep her energised. Making Pesarattu at home is straightforward. Soak one cup of whole green gram for four to six hours or overnight. Drain it, then grind with a small piece of ginger, one or two green chillies, a teaspoon of cumin seeds and salt, adding just enough water for a smooth but not watery batter. It is ready in minutes and needs no long rising time. The green gram brings protein, fibre, manganese, potassium and B vitamins, which helps explain why an actress who trains regularly keeps coming back to it. The dish feels light yet filling, perfect for breakfast or an evening snack, and it sits well even on long shoot days. Her comments over the years show she values food that nourishes without weighing her down, and Pesarattu ticks both boxes.
