Big cats are making a statement on the wrist this year. From panthers and lions to tigers, luxury brands are bringing these powerful animals to life through intricate timepieces that feel more like miniature works of art. In its recent Into the Wild collection, Cartier paired its signature panther with the tiger in a high-jewellery and watch campaign. Other brands have also turned to big cats as a striking source of inspiration for their watches.
At Hermès , the lion took centre stage with the Slim d’Hermès Pocket Roaaaaar!, a timepiece that combines watchmaking with decorative arts. The pocket watch features a lion’s head in wooden marquetry, set against a grand feu enamel dial in vert cyprès and bleu saphir. Gucci looked to its archives for the G-Timeless Métiers d’Art Tiger, inspired by a late-1970s Animalia scarf. A hand-painted rose-gold tiger sits against an iridescent mother-of-pearl dial, alongside engraved bamboo details and a diamond-set tourbillon. Chanel continues its association with the lion with the Monsieur Lion Tourbillon Black Edition, featuring a laser-engraved titanium lion’s head—a nod to Gabrielle Chanel’s Leo star sign. The maison also brings the animal to its jewellery watches with the Mademoiselle Privé Bouton Lion, featuring a sculpted lion on a secret ring and long necklace. Vacheron Constantin joined the trend in August with its Métiers d’Art Tribute to the Animal Kingdom collection. Among the six one-of-a-kind watches is Tigerbroidery, featuring an embroidered tiger made with yellow- and white-gold wires.
