The 19-year-old achieved the feat while playing for KZN Inland against Titans in the CSA Pro20 Cup in Pietermaritzburg. Chad Laycock made history on Tuesday by becoming the first bowler to take five wickets in an over in South African T20 cricket.

Laycock also set a new record for the best bowling figures in CSA Pro20 Cup history, going past Beuran Hendricks’ 6/29 from 2014. The five wickets ended Titans’ innings at 204, with the team having been 193/4 before the over. Laycock had earlier given KZN Inland their first breakthrough by dismissing Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who scored 81 off 36 balls, in the ninth over.

The historic over came in the 19th over of the Titans innings. Laycock first dismissed Leus du Plooy before taking the wickets of Dayyaan Galiem, Aphiwe Mnyanda, Janco Smit and Esosa Aihevba off the next four deliveries.

Chasing 205, they finished on 183/6, losing the match by 21 runs. Laycock remained unbeaten on 31. Al-Amin took five wickets in an over while playing for UCB-BCB XI against Abahani Limited in the 2013-14 Victory Day T20 Cup. Mithun achieved the feat in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy semifinal, playing for Karnataka against Haryana in India’s domestic T20 competition.

However, Laycock’s performance was not enough to secure a win for KZN Inland. The victory extended table-toppers Titans’ unbeaten run in the competition to six matches.
