Delhi Capitals (DC) have appointed former India spinner Amit Mishra as their spin bowling coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season. Mishra, who played 162 IPL matches for four franchises, will take up a coaching role in the tournament for the first time after retiring from professional cricket last September. Mishra is among the leading wicket-takers in IPL history, with 174 wickets from 162 matches. Delhi Capitals finished sixth in the 2026 season and are yet to win an IPL title. Mishra’s IPL career began in 2008, when he took a five-wicket haul in his first match. He took his other two hat-tricks in 2011 and 2013. Known for his flighted leg-breaks, Mishra played in every IPL season from 2008 to 2024 except 2022. He played his last IPL match for Lucknow Super Giants in 2024 and finished his career in the tournament with 174 wickets at an economy rate of 7.37.

He also holds the record for the most hat-tricks in the tournament, having taken three during his career. “A tiger is the one who never leaves his prey. Dilli is my heartbeat. That performance included the first of his three hat-tricks in the tournament. No bowler has taken more hat-tricks in the league’s history than Mishra, who represented Haryana in domestic cricket.

We will try to give the happiness to the Dilli fans, which they have been waiting for these many years,” Mishra said in a video posted on the franchise’s social media handles on Wednesday.
