The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia on Friday offered no clear answers on the future of men’s selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar but said that “15 days is a long time in the world of cricket. Agarkar was appointed chairman of the men’s senior selection committee in July 2023, and his contract is scheduled to end next month. The selectors announced India’s squads for the upcoming home white-ball series against West Indies earlier this week.
This comes after BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said earlier in the day that the board has authorised its office-bearers to take a decision on the future of the men’s senior selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar. “Arun Singh Dhumal, Majumdar retain IPL governing council posts; AGM authorises office-bearers to take a decision on selectors,” Shukla said after attending the meeting at the BCCI headquarters. “We still have fifteen days to go. Fifteen days is a long time in the world of cricket. We will take a decision in appropriate time and we will let you know about it. Their next major responsibility will be selecting India’s Test and India ‘A’ squads for the tour of New Zealand in October and November. India will play five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests against New Zealand, while India ‘A’ will play three unofficial Tests against New Zealand ‘A’ in a shadow tour ahead of the two-match Test series.
Today, there was no discussion on any individual,” Saikia said after the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting at the BCCI headquarters.
