India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first against West Indies in the second ODI in Guwahati.
Gill said the Barsapara pitch has “a bit more grass” and looks “a little bit patchy”, adding that there could be “a little bit more for the fast bowlers initially”. Reflecting on the first ODI, Gill said India were put “under pressure in the first 20-25 overs” but praised the way they fought back. He also identified fielding as an area India could improve, saying the “intensity in the field in the middle overs” is crucial. West Indies captain Shai Hope said he “definitely would have fielded as well” had he won the toss.
India have made one change, with Auqib Nabi making his ODI debut in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy. West Indies have made four changes for the second ODI.
On their first-ODI performance, Hope felt West Indies were “probably a bit more” than 20 runs short after being on course for 320. “It’s about going out there, putting your best foot forward and finding the right solutions to win games,” he said.
