Gavaskar Calls for Expanded Role of CAC in Indian Cricket
Sunil Gavaskar, the former India captain, has voiced his concerns following East Zone’s victory in the Duleep Trophy final, where Ishan Kishan’s team secured the title based on a first-innings lead. Gavaskar has been critical of this rule, which has faced ongoing scrutiny over multiple domestic seasons.
He suggests that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) should take a more significant role in addressing these issues and influencing the future direction of Indian cricket. According to Gavaskar, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should expand the CAC’s responsibilities to encompass broader areas of the sport, including both domestic and international scheduling.
The former batter, who also captained India to the 1985 Championship win, wants the idea to extend beyond the men’s game, with a comparable advisory structure for women’s cricket. “When this committee interacts with the coach and captain and the head of the NCA, it carries a heft beyond measure. A similar committee for women’s cricket, too, where experience and expertise meet to take calls to take Indian cricket forward,” wrote Gavaskar.
