Verreynne’s departure comes at a crucial stage of Nottinghamshire’s campaign. They currently sit second in the County Championship, four points behind leaders Somerset and one point ahead of third-placed Warwickshire, with just three rounds remaining. The club will now have to manage the final stretch of the title race without their first-choice wicketkeeper, with fixtures against Hampshire, Sussex and Yorkshire still to come. “The team’s in a good position at the moment, playing some really good cricket. I think it’s going to be quite an exciting run-in, so I’ll be keeping a close eye. Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell admitted that losing Verreynne at this point of the season was far from ideal, although the club understood South Africa’s position. Newell also praised Verreynne’s contribution during his latest spell with the club, saying his performances had helped Nottinghamshire put themselves in a strong position heading into the final weeks of the Championship.
