A new leak from X user blortzen suggests that Sprites will be removed at the start of Fortnite Chapter 8 as soon as the Mini-Season ends, sometime in late November to early December 2026. The news arrives just after Epic Games introduced a dedicated Sprite Garden in Chapter 7 Season 4 Override. After dominating two seasons of Fortnite gameplay, Sprites may be heading for the vault sooner than anyone expected. In the section below, we take a detailed look at the recent Fortnite Sprites leak.

X user blortzen found that Sprite extraction files, which contain the backend code handling Sprite extraction in-game, are set to be removed at the start of Fortnite Chapter 8. This would include Fortnite Sprites from Chapter 7 Season 3 and Season 4. The Fortnite Sprite Mastery tab is also reportedly being removed in Chapter 8. That mini-season is expected to bridge the gap between Chapter 7 Season 4 Override and Chapter 8’s full launch, meaning Sprite hunters will have at least one more window to collect companions before the system potentially sunsets.

Epic Games has not officially commented on the leak and has not confirmed any plans to remove Sprites. This isn’t a rumour based on speculation or a vague datamine. There’s something specific in the game files pointing toward the removal. The removal of the exact Sprites mechanic suggests they might not be in the game altogether. In short, the entire ecosystem built around finding, extracting, levelling, and mastering Sprites appears to be flagged for removal, not just the individual companions. It’s worth emphasising that game file discoveries are not confirmation of anything. Code is frequently added, modified, and removed during development, and what sits in the files at any given point doesn’t always reflect the final shipped product. The timing makes the leak particularly eyebrow-raising. Epic Games explicitly mentioned that Sprites were here to stay for the foreseeable future, but the developer might be looking to change course. Taking into account their popularity, not to mention the time and effort that went into creating the entire feature, their removal seems like wasted potential. The Sprite system spawned dozens of weekly events, community-designed companions, dedicated farming strategies, and an entire collection infrastructure in the Sprite Garden. New Sprites will be available in the upcoming Mini-Season, which is rumoured to be a Fortnite One Piece collaboration. There’s still no confirmation on whether older Sprites will also return.

There are more than 160 Sprites in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 alone, and collecting them has been a daunting, if not an impossible, task. For those players, Chapter 8 starting fresh without Sprites is a relief rather than a loss. Not everyone is upset about the prospect of Sprites leaving, with some being in favour of the Sprites being vaulted. The sentiment reflects a real tension in the player base. others have found the sheer volume of companions overwhelming While many players have invested significant time in the Sprite Checklist and Mastery system.
