Rockstar Games has revealed new details about the weather system in GTA 6, confirming that players will experience hurricanes, tropical storms, heavy rain, and strong winds in Leonida. The updated system will also bring lasting puddles, moving clouds, lightning, and realistic wind effects.
Rockstar has improved its weather system to make the world feel more real, according to a new report from Game Informer. The game will also feature changing weather, with rain falling in one area while the sun shines in another.
Rockstar’s latest weather reveal shows how the studio plans to bring Florida-like weather to Leonida, the fictional state where GTA 6 takes place.
“We have re-engineered our weather system to make everything much more localized and persistent, and really wanted the world to feel dynamically solid and achieve a sense of scale we haven’t felt before,” Shepherd said. “Hair and debris will swirl around on roof-tops; gusts of wind will blow ripples over the water surface and bend the grass in swamps,” he said. Speaking to Game Informer, Owen Shepherd, Rockstar’s vice president of art for lighting and rendering, explained that the team had rebuilt its weather system. The game will also have large storm clouds, lightning, and changing skies. The new weather system will also change how wind affects the game world. Rockstar is adding different wind patterns, including sea breezes after sunset and warm air rising during the day. Buildings will also block and change the direction of the wind. Shepherd explained how these effects will appear in the game.
