The Oklahoma City Thunder have since announced the guard ruptured his right Achilles tendon and will miss the entire 2026-27 season. He played 15 minutes and scored 8 points. Oweh is 23, was a second-round pick and was still competing for a roster spot, so his NBA debut now has to wait until next season at the earliest. Oweh was the 41st pick of the 2026 draft and signed a two-way deal, so preseason minutes were his audition. His senior season brought 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game, plus All-SEC Second Team honors for the second year in a row.
A left foot injury had already cut into his Summer League, Roundtable reported. Otega Oweh went down in overtime of Tuesday night’s preseason win over the Indiana Pacers with no other player near him. Teammates helped carry him off the floor, and surgery followed Wednesday night in New York. Dr. Martin O’Malley operated at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and Thunder medical personnel were present. The team called the surgery successful. The Thunder should keep him around the team, with meetings when doctors allow, film study and lessons in the defensive terms Oklahoma City uses.
