The Lakers guard filed a Hague Convention petition aimed at bringing his two daughters from Slovenia to the United States, The Athletic reported Friday.
“Nothing is more important to me than my daughters,” the guard said, adding a promise to do whatever it takes so both parents stay present in the girls’ lives. A child support and attorney fee case in California ended when Goltes withdrew her petition, according to an Aug. She said she wanted a mutual agreement that served the children’s best interests.
Luka Doncic has opened a new legal front in a custody dispute that has dragged on for months. Doncic had hoped to settle things with former fiancée Anamaria Goltes by Sept. The date came and went, and the Slovenian star returned for Lakers camp with the matter still unsettled. The Athletic broke the story Friday. The treaty is designed to protect a parent’s access to children who live in another country. That fits this situation closely: the daughters are in Slovenia, and their father works in Los Angeles. Doncic gave the outlet a short statement. “I will do whatever it takes to make sure they have both parents present in their lives. The reasons are practical as much as personal. After the split, the girls went back to Slovenia with Goltes, and Doncic has seen them in stretches limited by distance and the NBA schedule. The new petition is not the first legal move in this story. Custody talks, ESPN added, were still going on in the Slovenian courts.
