The Magic are 1-2 after beating a winless Knicks team (0-3) for their first victory. Suggs is 25 and in his sixth season. 5 pick in 2021 out of Gonzaga averaged 13.8 points and 5.5 assists last season while helping the Magic reach the playoffs for a third straight year.
Magic coach Sean Sweeney spoke with Suggs after the game and described the guard as in “good spirits,” per NBA reporter Darko Dželetović. The team has not shared specifics on the injury. Early postgame reports point to an MRI in the coming days, and further testing is set for Monday. The non-contact nature of the play is what makes the wait uncomfortable. They had dropped their first two games to the Hawks and the Timberwolves. A long absence for Suggs would hit a team still searching for its early rhythm. Orlando did close out the nine-point win without him. The No. Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams was stretchered off against the Clippers with a leg injury.
Orlando was not the only team shaken on Sunday, either.
