The Philadelphia Eagles suffered another major injury blow during their Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, as star running back Saquon Barkley was forced out of the game with a hamstring injury. Because of the hamstring injury, however, that possibility was later ruled out when the Eagles officially announced that Barkley would miss the remainder of the game. Barkley was injured early in the first quarter on just his second carry of the afternoon. The Eagles running back took the handoff and picked up six yards, but appeared to pull up as he reached the sideline. He was seen limping and grabbing the back of his right leg before Eagles trainers accompanied him to the medical tent for evaluation. The initial diagnosis left Barkley listed as questionable to return, giving Philadelphia some hope that its star running back could eventually get back onto the field.
He had recorded 174 rushing yards heading into Week 4, while quarterback Jalen Hurts ranked second on the team with 87 rushing yards. He missed most of Philadelphia’s Week 2 game against Tennessee after suffering a stinger, although he returned to action and played in the following games. The Eagles have ruled him out for the afternoon, but there is no confirmed timetable for his return yet .
Barkley had entered the Rams game as Philadelphia’s leading rusher through the first three weeks of the season. For now, the biggest question is whether Sunday’s hamstring injury will cost Barkley more than just the remainder of the Rams game.
The injury also comes after Barkley dealt with another issue earlier this season.
