The club, co-owned by Brittany and Patrick Mahomes, announced a free youth soccer league in Kansas City’s historic Northeast neighbourhood. The initiative aimed to remove financial barriers for children eager to play, while Brittany’s work with the Current also earned her a notable honour celebrating women’s leadership and progress in sports.
Earlier this year, the Kansas City Current brought its community-focused mission closer to home, creating new opportunities for young soccer players and earning recognition for Brittany Mahomes ‘ leadership.
Set to begin on July 11, the programme targeted children aged 8 to 10, with organisers expecting around 120 participants during the summer.

For families in the Northeast neighbourhood, the league offered more than a chance to play. Accessible youth sports can help children build confidence, learn teamwork and form connections with peers. By removing participation costs, the Current aimed to make those experiences available to more young people. Kansas City Current President Raven Jemison highlighted the wider purpose behind the initiative in a statement. “Launching the 9th & Van Brunt Soccer League is a perfect embodiment of the Kansas City Current’s community pillars.
