Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady share the same 115-35 record through 150 career starts (Getty Images)
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-27 on Sunday to move to 4-0, and Patrick Mahomes keeps getting held up against Tom Brady. Through 150 career starts, both quarterbacks were level at 115-35. Mahomes, 31, is back from the ACL tear that ended his last season, and the early results suggest the knee isn’t slowing him. Brady retired with seven, and he won the last one against Mahomes in Super Bowl 55. Brady also went 12 years between his third title and his fourth, a reminder that dynasties rarely run in a straight line. Kansas City now gets its bye week before hosting the Chargers at Arrowhead on October 18. Because the offense leaned on him Sunday, thornton’s status will be the first thing to watch,. This time the comparison is hard to wave away. The Chiefs have a bye week next, which gives everyone time to argue about what the matching records really mean. The rings are the other gap. Mahomes has three. He completed 15 of 30 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns, both to Tyquan Thornton. Thornton finished with 111 yards on five catches. Kenneth Walker III did the heavy lifting on the ground, running for 177 yards and two scores. Kirk Cousins threw for 365 yards for Las Vegas, so Kansas City had to earn it. The Chiefs scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, and the Raiders’ defense had not allowed any fourth-quarter points all season before that. Brady played 23 seasons and finished with more than 89,000 passing yards, and Mahomes is nowhere close to that yet. He is 31 and in his tenth season, so the math only works if his body cooperates.
Thornton later left with what looked like a serious lower-body injury. The wins are not the hard part. Longevity is. The knee injury showed how much depends on health. Staying sharp into your 40s is a separate challenge, and nobody can predict it. Join conversation Share your thoughts in the comments Be respectful · TOI community guidelines
Mahomes and Brady are both 98-31 in 129 regular-season starts. Each went 5-2 across seven AFC Championship Game appearances. Each also has the same Super Bowl record through the same number of trips, 3-2 in five appearances. Across their first nine seasons, Mahomes threw for 35,655 yards and 267 touchdowns. Brady had 26,440 and 197. Mahomes also ran for 2,655 yards in that span, against 533 for Brady.
Almost mirror images. That is team success lined up almost game for game. The passing numbers tell a different story. The results match, but the routes do not. Sunday was a reminder that Mahomes does not need big numbers to win.
