Mahomes shared the new campaign on Instagram on Thursday, with the nearly 48-second spot taking a dramatic approach to his familiar superstar image. Because mahomes had rarely been forced to watch the most important part of an NFL season from the sideline, the setback was particularly significant.

“The reckless don’t eat,” one message in the commercial reads, before the ad builds toward another striking line: “the predator he truly is. Patrick Mahomes is showing fans a side of himself they rarely see. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has turned into the centerpiece of a dark and cinematic new adidas advertisement, with the star quarterback portrayed as a patient predator waiting for his moment to strike. Rather than focusing on Mahomes’ smile, personality, or famous off-field persona, adidas leans into something much more ruthless. A fitting message for a quarterback who is preparing to return to the NFL after one of the biggest setbacks of his career. The injury ended his season and brought a painful end to Kansas City’s playoff hopes.

By training camp, he was taking first-team repetitions and making it clear that Week 1 was always the target. Mahomes holds minority ownership stakes in several professional sports organizations, including the Kansas City Royals, Sporting Kansas City, the Kansas City Current and Alpine’s Formula 1 team.

“I’m someone that, if you put something in front of me, I want to go out and get it,” Mahomes said during his recovery. He spent months working through rehabilitation and returned to practice in the offseason. There was still a cautious approach around his return, with Chiefs coach Andy Reid refusing to make early guarantees. Mahomes has maintained a major relationship with adidas since entering the NFL. The partnership has grown into his own signature line and includes football footwear, apparel and other products. Adidas has also worked with Mahomes on initiatives connected to his alma mater, Texas Tech, and its Team Mahomes NIL program. Forbes also lists adidas, State Farm, Oakley, DraftKings and several other major brands among his sponsors.
