That modest setup came before the MVP award, Super Bowl title and $503 million contract that changed the financial side of Mahomes’ career. The Chiefs traded Smith to Washington in January 2018, leaving Mahomes with the opportunity he had been waiting for, and he responded with 5,097 passing yards and 50 touchdowns during the 2018 regular season. Mahomes followed that campaign by leading the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl victory in 50 years. On February 2, 2020, Kansas City defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV after Mahomes helped erase a 20-10 fourth-quarter deficit, with the quarterback finishing the game with 286 passing yards, two touchdowns and the Super Bowl MVP award.

They used an upstairs guest bedroom to keep their living costs down, giving Mahomes a relatively ordinary start to his NFL career before Kansas City eventually handed him the starting role. The group included several prominent athletes and formed part of a larger investment that valued the Alpine operation as a significant global sports property.
