Best Buddies announced the results on Nov. Tom Brady has spent years supporting Best Buddies International, a nonprofit that works with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The auction offered more than a chance to play golf with an NFL legend. At the 25th Annual Best Buddies Miami Gala, Brady co-hosted a live auction with Anthony K. Shriver, the organisation’s founder, chairman and CEO. Their auction featured a golf experience and lunch at Indian Creek Golf Course.
The gala took place five days earlier and also honoured Brady with the Spirit of Leadership Award for his contributions to the organisation.
Best Buddies said the gala raised $5 million to support its work creating opportunities for friendship, employment, leadership development and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organisation said he had served as a global ambassador, advocate and supporter for more than 20 years by November 2023. His work helped the nonprofit raise over $100 million. During his acceptance speech at the November 17, 2023, Miami gala, Brady spoke about the value of relationships and support systems. The $120,000 golf experience was one part of the effort while the event’s $5 million total supported Best Buddies programs on a wider scale. “There is nothing in our life that can be accomplished as an individual,” Brady said at the event. The evening included a dinner, live and silent auctions, and a performance by Grammy-winning artist Nelly. Brady also tossed autographed footballs into the crowd as part of the fundraising effort. The golf auction formed one part of a larger event.
