The biggest question surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs’ offence is no longer just about finding more explosive plays. It is about deciding who deserves a place in Patrick Mahomes ‘ long-term plans. Tyreek Hill remains available, and his history with the franchise makes a reunion an exciting possibility. Yet Kansas City may have little interest in bringing back its former star. Despite his low potential salary, Hill’s recovery from knee surgery and the team’s confidence in its younger receivers could keep the door firmly closed. Hill’s availability gives the Chiefs an option that few teams can ignore. The veteran wideout knows Andy Reid’s system and has already built a strong connection with Mahomes. His speed could force opposing defences to spread out, creating more room for Rashee Rice and other playmakers to operate. There is also a financial argument in favour of the move. Hill remains unsigned and is recovering from knee surgery, meaning Kansas City could potentially bring him in for close to the veteran minimum. That would make the deal far less expensive than pursuing a high-profile receiver through a trade. However, a cheap contract does not automatically make a signing worthwhile. Hill’s recovery remains a major concern, and the Chiefs would need to decide how quickly he could return to his best level. They also have young receivers who need opportunities to develop. ESPN’s Dan Graziano explained why Kansas City may prefer to trust its existing options. “The Chiefs, they have guys… Rashee Rice was a second-round pick. Xavier Worthy was a first-round pick!.. Guys like that are supposed to be the solutions. That assessment suggests the organisation may not want to disrupt its plans by bringing back a familiar face. Rice and Worthy were drafted to become important parts of the passing attack. Giving them more responsibility could be a bigger priority than adding another veteran. If Kansas City decides against signing Hill, it could still look for a major upgrade at wide receiver. The team’s ambitions remain high, and Mahomes needs reliable targets who can make difficult catches and change games. Garrett Wilson could offer the Chiefs an excellent option. The New York Jets receiver has the ability to separate from defenders and make plays in tight coverage. However, convincing the Jets to part with him would likely require a significant offer. Houston Texans receiver Nico Collins and Dallas Cowboys wideout George Pickens are other names worth considering. Both could add a different dimension to Kansas City’s passing game, although either move would come with a substantial cost. Still, the possibility of a reunion raises an important question: should the Chiefs bring back a familiar star or invest in a younger weapon? Their answer could shape Mahomes’ offence for the rest of the season. Get the latest Sports News and Live updates. Download the TOI app.
